She really didn't remember the knock on her door. She didn't remember answering it. But here she was, sitting in her quarters, now the normal lighting in effect and two security officers from DS9 were there. They had a padd with them and were showing her what happened to Kelevin and Timmina.

As the padd played out their final moments, Makorie felt her soul shiver It was senseless, this murder. Something station security should have prevented. A group of rowdy Corvallens had moved through DS9, causing problems. Some had gone into the cafe run by Kelevin and Timmina and had a disagreement with them. It was reported to security and the Covallens left the cafe. Then at closing, when the couple were closing up and cleaning up, two of the Covallens returned to finish the argument and killed the couple, took a week's worth of food and drink, and left the bodies lying in their own blood in the kitchens, not to be found until the next morning by one of the servers into work. The Covallen freighter had already been sent away from DS9 for causing fights all over the station. With this murder and the proof of it, the Covallens responsible have been returned to DS9 for sentencing and all Covallens are to be censored when coming to DS9 in the future. The Covallens have offered reparations to the heirs of the Ger Kelevin family, which means Kai Makorie.

Makorie looked at the padd and felt sick. Yes, it was a kingly sum to pay and for some, it would more than compensate. However Kelevin and Timmina were the last of those she called family and kept her tied to Bajor and DS9. That tie wasn't just severed, it was turned into atoms and scattered to the Prophets and the stars. She had no one now, no one who cared, no one who understood, no one to share history with, she was cast adrift and those that did it wanted to give her a fortune. What was she going to do with something as filthy and base as money? She wanted her family back, her friends back,

She put her mark on the padd as the security officers requested. Then an account with an obscene amount of money in it appeared under her name in the computer files. She didn't care. She had Starfleet and science. That was all she needed now. Well, maybe a shower and a clean uniform and then to go back to work. Science always soothed her, she would use it now, and go on and hopefully leave that legacy she wanted to leave, not only for the sake of her Kai family, but now also for the Ger family.
