Mission: Where do we go from here?

Duty Log
Lieutenant Muffy Harrington

Muffy was at her station, watching the play between the various ships in the sector. She frowned as she noted that the two unknown ships that might be Pakled weren’t the only ones the Romulans were contacting with their light code. It seemed that they were the only ship in the sector that wasn’t in on secret. She wasn’t quite sure what to make of it, but it didn’t look good. She was glad that she had told them to only program Federation vessels as okay to be there. But there was an Adorian ship there and it was a Federation vessel. So was the merchant ship that showed the crew was mostly human.

Was this Romulan trying to take over this sector? Either with bribes, or coercion or threats or even theft? But the Romulans didn’t use dilithium, why take over a dilithium mining colony? Or were the Romulans trying to extend their influence into the Federation by using these decoy ships that did use dilithium. That prospect was terrifying. Could the Federation be that easy to penetrate? She truly hoped not.

There was also a Ferengi ship in the sector, that was the only one who asked to come into orbit to buy a shipment of dilithium. But she knew enough about Ferengi and had run into enough to know they weren’t to be trusted, especially when they came openly. There was always a hidden viper kept close. She wasn’t in charge of the colony though, so they could trade with whomever they chose. Personally, she would be more discriminating on who she worked with and allowed others to trade with.

She wondered if she should bring her speculations up to the Captain and saw the worry on her face. Maybe she was already thinking the same thing. It wasn’t that she was heartless or had a desire to rid the universe of such treacherous races like the Romulans and Cardassians and Ferengi and others, but she was here on the front lines to keep those she loved on Earth safe, even her headache of a family. Maybe if the Captain asked, she would give voice to her suspicions and she marked on all the recordings of the sensor logs she was making of examples to back up her recommendations to get rid of the lot and allow legitimate traders to come in and trade and keep out the snakes.
