Personal Log
Kai Makorie

Makorie sat in her office after they had crossed the barrier into a brand new, unexplored, part of space. No Federation ship had ever gone this far before, it was brand new, no bad history, in fact, no history for any Federation race or Federation enemy for that matter. She felt lighter somehow, like she was given the chance to start over, fresh, no past to keep her tied down.

She wondered what this new frontier would offer them, would offer her. She wondered what kind of people inhabited this part of space. What would they run into? What would they encounter? She was excited to see what lie in store for them here. She knew that some of the crew would freak out, not having that connection to past, to family, to the known. She had none of that to hold her back, she could look forward to the unknown with an open heart and mind, nothing to bias her experience here.

She wrote up her observations of the science department at being in this new area of space. Most of her department shared her excitement to see what was out there. A few were hesitant and even afraid of not having the safety net of the Federation to fall back on should things turn....ugly. She felt that some morale boosters were needed, but that wasn't her department, she was science, going to face the unknown and see what facts still applied and which were different here.

Sipping on some tart lemonade, Makorie finished her formal reports to the Captain of what her department had done in the past week. What they did during before, during, and now after the crossing of the barrier. She also put in the next month's duty shift rotations for approval. She had thought about Lieutenant Lionmane when she made up the schedule. It seemed that Lieutenant Lionmane was making her way through all the departments on the ship. Starting in engineering, moving to medical, and now in science. However, she was never actually IN science, she spent her whole time on the bridge teasing Targus and Adon. She wasn't sure what to do with her, but if she was happy on the bridge, it made it easy to just leave her there and not have to worry about her in the labs making projects more complicated. Besides, Makorie didn't like being on the bridge as it took her out of the labs and doing the actual work, let Lionmane deal with the politics of the bridge, she would stay in the labs and get the real work done.

She was curious though, why the barrier was giving off false omega particle readings. She looked over the data again and then realized that there was something in part of space that reacted like omega particles, but weren't actually omega particles. It was the way the theta and gamma radiation reacted to the gravity on this side of the barrier that gave off the false readings and actually protected them while they passed through the barrier. Of course, this was all theory as there was no way to actually test it in a controlled environment to prove it and make it science fact verse theory alone. It was an interesting observation and she wanted to go more into it, when they had the time.

There was just too much to do on this side of the barrier. Makorie would have to settle down and concentrate on one thing at a time, or she would become overwhelmed and mess things up. However, she felt as giddy as the proverbial child at Christmas. Focus, Makorie, one thing at a time. Solve the mystery of the crossing. Then move onto the next project. Get facts so that those who like to find answers have facts on which to base those answers. Focus, focus, focus, became her mantra and she got to work on her theory about the mix of the two radiations and the gravity on this side of the barrier causing the effect that had destroyed other ships attempting the crossing.

Working until the end of shift, Makorie was reminded to go and eat and she smiled at Lieutenant Jones, one of her best historians. She reminded Mark Jones to record everything as they were making history right this minute, just being here. He nodded and then again reminded her to go and eat. Sighing, Makorie logged off of her lab's console and left for the day. She kept her excitement trapped behind her eyes, but she was still very excited about this new adventure.
