Mission: Where do we go from here?
Location: Main Engineering Chief's Office

Joint Duty Log: An Idea
By: Thea Queen and Felicity Smoke.

Between the Away team leaving for the Earth in this time-line that was practically just a ball of water to the naked eye, and the Roddenberry flying towards the planet of Vulcan, Thea had been running simulations in the holodeck to find a safer way home for her crewmates.

Now with PADD in hand after the away mission to sabotage the drill, the young Ensign stood outside her new chief's door. The Red Matter Core was safely tucked away in Lt. Kai's vault in Science so Thea didn't need to worry about that. She pressed the Chime to get her chief's attention.

Felicity was alright with that being locked away also, one less headache. There was still a lot to work on, glancing up at the door a moment, "Come in."

When the door opened at that command, Thea walked through it and into the Chief's office. "Lieutenant, I had a thought about how to make traveling back to the wormhole that will hopefully take us home a little safer," Thea said as she walked up to the desk and held out the PADD in her hand.

On it, Felicity would find Thea's research into Refractal shielding that would be like refracting light around the ship making it harder for sensors to pick them up. They would effectively disappear from the Suliban's ability to find them.

"What? Like the way cloaks work?" Taking the PADD and looking it over. "Though to be honest, everyone keeps forgetting about the 25th-century deployable shell armor we have that they shouldn't be able to even get past." Handing the PADD back. "If you want to work on it, I don't see why not, it will help. It's not going to be a cloaking device but."

"Well to be honest it's similar to cloaking but we're still not allowed to use cloaking technology. and the Armor is great but we'll still end up in a fight. I've been thinking about how we were detected in a time we aren't supposed to exist and caused the Suliban to attack unprovoked. This algorithm for refractive shields could make getting back to the wormhole safer, if you think it is unnecessary then I will return to my duties as is rather than waste time on technology we're not going to use." Thea said honestly.

"I never said it was unnecessary, honey. I said everyone keeps forgetting about the armor since the Borg can barely scratch it." Felicity gave some thought a moment, "Well since the Aldrin has a cloak and apparently, not sharing, it's the best we've got to work with and it is a good idea, Thea." Motioning for her to sit.

Thea moved to sit in the offered seat, "I was unaware that the Aldrin had a cloaking device, isn't that against the peace treaties?" Thea asked as she sat. "The armor is great, but with enough hits, it can eventually be 'scratched'" Thea said with a slight smirk.

"Obviously, not any more or some kind of deal made, like with the Defiant." She gave a bit of a shrug. "Do you want something to drink?"

"Water would be nice thank you, Huh I never thought that the Aldrin would make a deal for cloaking technology but not share it. The refractive shielding, however, will work differently than the cloaking. if I'm not mistaken a cloak has to be lowered before you can fire weapons. with refractive shielding, if we do happen to get noticed we don't need to lower our shields to fire weapons." Thea explained.

Felicity got up and got her some water. She still hadn't put anything personal in what you could call an office. Coming to the side of the desk and holding the water out. "They both work on the same concept of refracting light to mask and blend into the surrounding area. Which..of course, cloaks are more sophisticated. We'll get Laurel or that Ferengi with you on it, or both. Now, I'm more interested in," sitting on the corner of the desk. "How are you doing with your brother out there while we're here and about to get into a fight."

"Oliver's too cocky to not succeed, I'd be more worried if he was on a date rather than going diving and mining," Thea said with a slight smirk. "He should be back by now though."

"I think so if everything went well. I wasn't asking for me though, I was asking for you. However, since you said that, I've seen him getting oogled. Is..he gay?"

Thea laughed at that, "I've asked him that once myself, but no Felicity, Oliver is far from gay that I know of but I still like to tease him about the possibility." Thea giggled.

"I see," She almost giggled a little herself. "I just haven't seen you socialize that much, and with you both being here on the same ship, that's bound to be stressful."

"I'll be honest it is, and I'd like to socialize more since I haven't seen him since I was a kid really, but he's busy, well busier than I remember him being, I don't want to bother him," Thea admitted with a shrug.

"Not just you and he, though you should, but in general."

"I'm not used to socializing, I mean I was a huge party-goer before the academy, but I also got into a lot of trouble as well. when I was in the academy I buckled down and studied harder than I ever had before, but then I had a goal to find my brother. He was found before I finished my academy days. I guess you could say I forgot how to make friends and socialize." Thea said with a smirk laughing slightly.

Felicity gave a motion, "And yet here you are, even after being all that. Has he ever told you why he went poof?"

"Oliver doesn't talk much about himself these days and I'm not going to pressure him into doing so that only makes him lock up more. When he's ready he'll talk to me. He's changed a lot he used to be a party animal before he and dad disappeared. He'd go after anyone with nice legs and breasts," Thea smirked at the memory.

She raised an eyebrow curiously, "Well he certainly doesn't seem to be doing that here. So yeah, changed. I'm not sure why everyone hates him. he's just being serious and doing his job. He cares about the people."

"Believe me, you don't have to convince me of that," Thea sighed and frowned. "I don't know why either I think he has high expectations and if you don't meet what he feels you are capable of doing he has no problem giving you a dressing down. But I think it has something to do with Dad and their disappearance. He doesn't want to see it happen to someone else he cares about." Thea said. "This is of course just idle speculation since he hasn't exactly talked to me. Outside of duty shifts in engineering that is when he was Chief." She sighed and shook her head.

"I don't know either. He's obviously, passionate about something that's for sure. Won't know, till like you said, he wants to talk about it."

"and I don't know if he'll ever talk to me about it I won't force him to." Thea sighed, finishing her water, "I think I'll find Laural and get to work on those refractive shields so we can have a secondary protection than just the armor we use." Thea said with a nod as she moved to stand.

"Well, I'm no psychologist, just a friend, but maybe you two need to talk to one." Pushing up from the corner of the desk and around to sit back properly. "Let me know if you need some help."

"I'll take it under advisement," Thea smiled softly at Felicity and turned to leave.

"Thea?"

"Yes?" She turned to look back.

"If you want a hint, check the secure locker in his quarters, hidden behind your picture. Code is 367-458." Looking back to her screen.

"How do you know about it? how come you haven't used it?" Thea asked, frowning, unsure if she should do it or not.

"Not my business to look doesn't mean I don't know things. I'm not just a pretty face behind these glasses." Smiling lightly.

Thea smiled back and gave a not before leaving.
